Q: WHAT COUNTS AS NHS HOURS?

Q: DO MY HOURS CARRY OVER FROM LAST YEAR?
A: If you have excess hours from last years, they do not transfer over to this year. If you have a deficiency in hours from last year, they do (consider this an opportunity to make up missing hours rather than being removed from NHS).
Q: I’M ALREADY IN NHS, DO I HAVE TO APPLY AGAIN AT THE END OF THE YEAR IF I WANT TO STAY IN THE PROGRAM?
A: No, once you apply and get in, your position is secure until you graduate as long as all by-laws are abided by. If you are not already a member of NHS, applications are at the end of the year, and you can apply for your junior or senior year.
Q: DO I HAVE TO BE IN NHS FOR THE BOTH JUNIOR & SENIOR YEAR TO GET A SENIOR STOLE?
A: No, as long as you are an NHS member your senior year, you can purchase a stole.
Q: HOW DO I APPLY FOR A POSITION AS AN NHS OFFICER?
A: Elections are held in April of each school year. Only current junior members are eligible to run for an officer position.
Q: A CLUB OR ORGANIZATION I'M IN IS WORKING AN EVENT THAT NHS WILL BE AT TOO, CAN I DOUBLE-DIP MY HOURS?
A: Double dipping is not allowed. If you are required to complete hours for another club/class, you can NOT also use the hours for NHS. Double-Dipping hours is not permitted. If you have any questions regarding our Double-Dipping policy, please reach out to us via email or contact an officer, thanks!
Q: WHO SHOULD I CONTACT FOR ANY QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, OR IDEAS I HAVE?
A: You can either contact a specific officer or contact Mrs. Anderson at [email protected] or in room 615. Make sure you look around the website or check our meeting notes before coming to us.

- anything organized or planned by our NHS chapter labeled as a Group Event
- hours volunteering with a SDOHS faculty member (5 hours = 1 group event)
- any community service event at which you volunteer at
- non-profit organization events
- events not organized by NHS
- tasks or at-home chores
- i.e pet-sitting or babysitting
- mowing your neighbor's lawn
